Three dimensional movies at Galleria Cinemas have ushered in more than upgrades at the theater, but price hikes for movie tickets are likely to offset those improvement costs.

It's a change that came into effect this weekend with the premier of Dreamworks' film How to Train Your Dragon.

From now on, movie-goers eager to see the larger than life images presented in 3-D will shell out $5 for children and $10 for adults. That is opposed to the $3 and $7 that is charged for regular movies during prime hours.

It's a price hike now sweeping over most of North America, with the several 3-D movies expected for the summer. At Galleria, enhancements at the local cinema, along with pending competition, is targeted at catering marketing in the form of a new IMAX, 3-D theater in the southwest.

Well this seems to be a good thing...I guess. 3-D movies... ummm, wow? But shouldn't Galleria be working on their regular screens? Incase no one noticed, they're actually not that great. The rooms are small and the screens feel that way too. Ironically, most of the time the movie's dimensions are incorrect and fails to cover the entire screen. Sometimes it's the opposite and the projection hangs off of the screen onto the wall beneath. Not to mention, the far too often visual and audio glitches during the movie. Let's hope these things will be address in the various "enhancements" being made.

The price increase isn't so bad. But as a movie-goer I'd prefer an upgrade from film to digital. Then roll out IMAX theatres, THEN 3D. Seriously...they're working backwards here. 3D, then IMAX, then no mention of even switching fully to digital.

I need to move back home. In the states, regular adult tickets are $10 and 3D $14. Personally, I find 3D to be a distracting novelty effect.

i think $5 and $10 is still a very good price
