This coming weekend, March 5th and 6th is the KPMG Youth Winter Championship. This is the second year of KPMG’s undertaking to be the proud sponsor of Bahamas National Sailing School’s annual Junior Winter Regatta. Held annually in March, the time of year it always blows, this regatta is guaranteed to serve up fun and challenging sailing. A quick look at the weather channel indicates this year to be no exception as the forecast is for windy conditions on Saturday and letting up a bit on Sunday.

With over 50 sailors between the ages of 8 and 16 from around the Bahamas participating in the Optimist Dinghy, Junior Sunfish and Junior Laser classes, this is considered one of our major events. Top ranked sailors Tristan Eldon, Paul de Souza, Spencer Cartwright, Benjamin Derbyshire, Cochise Burrows, Brendan Sands (Abaco), Melisha Higgins (Harbour Island) and Paloma Cartwright (Long Island) will provide great competition for all wannabe champions.

The venue is the Nassau Yacht Club and racing will take place on Montagu Bay all day Saturday and Sunday morning, so come on down to Montagu Beach to see how well these youngsters handle their boats. Witness first hand the fun these kids have at this sport which is available to all young Bahamians, in which participation is made possible by the support of our sponsors like KPMG.
