Green Earth Festival by the numbers

21% of people making New Year’s Resolutions claim they’ll lose weight. 14% say they’ll exercise. 7 percent want to eat healthier, while 5 percent want to manage stress better. Though 3% of people want to stop procrastinating, 1 in 3 people would have ditched their resolutions by the end of January.

That is the answer for the 73% that give up before meeting the same health and fitness goal they’ve given up on at least 4 times in the past? The Green Earth Festival!

Whether you are in the 5% looking to manage stress better and to stop or reduce your smoking, or you are in the 3% longing to set time aside for yourself and start a new activity or hobby, The Green Earth Festival happening on April 23rd- 24th can help you to do it.

After all, this was the reason the festival began, to draw people toward “living the way nature intended,” which speaks to both wellness and sustainability and green living.

Created in 2010 by Rhonda Wright, who was joined by her partner Aisha Nesut Ani in 2014, the festival brings together companies, individuals and organizations to improve their lives in a one stop health, wellness and green shop. Sponsors like Solomon’s Fresh Market, My Kid’s Lunchbox, Cosmosis Yoga Suite & Global Cultural Hub and Scotiabank have come on board united in their desire to build a better Bahamas from the inside out.

Surrounded by the open air and green fields, The Green Earth Festival will take place at the historic Fort Charlotte, the perfect backdrop for sponsors and exhibitors to highlight and promote the multitude of sustainable, natural, holistic, organic, healthy and green products and services available in The Bahamas.

The thousands of people who have attended the one-day event for the past four festivals, have been able to enjoy information and products provided by vendors, but they have also learned more about beauty, raw food, art, hybrid vehicles, natural hair care, organic clothing, eco-friendly construction, backyard gardening and home care associated with all things green.

This year at the Green Earth Festival, attendees will converge on Green City, where they will have two days to engage in twice the education, entertainment and empowerment offered at the festival.

Green City will include several green ‘settlements’, events and activities; a Green Chef Showdown, sponsored by Solomon’s Fresh Market; the Green Earth Oasis, featuring yoga classes sponsored by Cosmosis Yoga Suite & Global Cultural Hub; Go Green Bay, showcasing how to live green daily; Green Cay, featuring delectable plant based food options; information and activities specific to children at the NaturaLife Kids Club sponsored by My Kid’s Lunch Box; a fitness boot camp; local and international entertainers and guest speakers at the Green City Town Talks, plus the mini-event, Knotty by Nature: A Natural Hair Affair, that focuses on the growing trend among black women who are rocking their natural tresses.

According to Mrs. Wright and Ms. Ani, “At the Green Earth Festival we see an increase in the number of attendees every year, but we also see an increase in those businesses wishing to cater to healthier and eco-friendlier lifestyles.

"That is why we keep coming back, we want to do our part to contribute to an increase in our GDP number but we also want to reduce those numbers of Bahamians with health issues and escalate the number of persons taking care of the Earth as good stewards. This family fun event is dedicated to helping us create the lives we’ve always wanted to live.”

The Green Earth festival is also increasing the number of community partners that benefit from the event. The Humane Society, Raising Awareness about Bahamas Landfill (RABL), Mega Mergers Apprenticeship Program, Youth In Yoga, Nu Woman Magazine & The Root Cause as well as Cans for Kids will all have opportunities to highlight their organization’s work leading up to or at the event and receive much needed exposure and support.

In mathematics, five (5) is described as the untouchable number. In this 5th year festival anniversary of the Green Earth Festival, the education, entertainment and experience will be just that.
