Mon, Jan 25th 2016, 10:37 AM

A record 250 delegates attended the Royal Fidelity Bahamas Economic Outlook on January 21st at the Atlantis Resort. At the conference, International and local speakers explored the causes, consequences, and solutions for systemic inequality under the conference theme “Inequality: Addressing the Global Imbalance”.

Royal Fidelity hosted a pre-event Sponsors Dinner at Dune Restaurant where sponsors were able to meet and greet the international visiting speakers.

On the day of the conference, Dr. Dambisa Moyo, global economist and author, opened the speaker lineup with her key note address “Inequality: A Global Discourse," which addressed the inherent conflicts facing developed economies as well as the interaction between politics, finance, and developing markets.

A panel debate brought a Bahamian perspective to the Inequality theme. Local radio host Lester Cox moderated as Bahamian businessman Dionisio D’Aguilar, and Chamber Chairman Gowon Bowe joined Danish best-selling author Rasmus Ankerson, RBC Chief Economist Craig Wright and Yale Lecturer Vikram Mansharamani to discuss the causes of economic inequality in the Bahamas and the way forward. Ryan Pinder, Partner at Graham Thompson was the lunchtime speaker.

The conference closed with an address from Rasmus Ankerson, who used sports analogies such as the discovery of Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Pryce and the talent scout who overlooked Roger Federer to illustrate how companies can eradicate complacency, find and retain exceptional talent, and continuously achieve performance excellence.

The day ended with a cocktail reception where Michael Anderson, President of Royal Fidelity, said "I was extremely pleased by the turnout and the quality of the presentations and hope that the conference will start further discussions on the issue of inequality and how to address it. We would like to thank our conference sponsors Cable Bahamas, Commonwealth Brewery, Royal Bank, J.S. Johnson, Graham Thompson and, PricewaterhouseCoopers.”
