A 21-year-old man, who admitted to playing blackjack in the Atlantis casino, has been placed on six months' probation.

Ted Thompson, of Sea Beach Estates, was arrested at the casino on December 27. When he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney, Thompson claimed that he did not know that gaming in the casino was still illegal, given the recent legalization of numbers houses. Thompson, who is black, claimed that he saw other white Bahamians in the casino as well.

McKinney placed Thompson on six months' probation. If he gets into trouble during that period, Thompson would have to pay a $500 fine or spend three months in prison.
