NASSAU, Bahamas - A man ran from police in his underwear after an attempted robbery at a Carmichael Road home.

Neighbors called the police when they saw two men using tools to cut open the iron grill on a back window of a nearby home.

When officers got to the home they found a man inside and one on the porch as a lookout.

When officers approached the men attacked. One of the policemen was hurt with a screwdriver but was able to subdue his assailant.

The other suspect fought with the other cop but escaped after wriggling out of his clothes and jumping a fence.

The first man was arrested.

The Guardian reported a bloody scene outside the home, with stains on an officer's uniform, on clothes strewn about the yard and on the front door.

Shivsankar Gharbharan, the home's owner, said yesterday's robbery was the fifth time someone has tried to break in.

Gharbharan, who teaches agriculture at a public school, was called home around 2pm. Thankfully his wife, son and daughter were not at home at the time.
