Government bans net-fishing

The Ministry of Agriculture and Marine Resources said it will enact legislation to protect fish populations. The Ministry said in a statement, "This method of fishing could result in the possible depletion or signification reduction of the fishing stocks in Bahamian waters. Having regard to the importance of sportfishing to the Tourism Industry, the Government takes the position that purse seine or net fishing will not be permitted in The Bahamas."

More Bahamian businesses but no more money
More Bahamians are choosing to open their own business, making for some healthy competition, according to business owner and former Head of the Chamber of Commerce, Dionisio D'Aguilar. But with no rise in consumer spending, the competition will be tough.

Visitor numbers will go up in March
The Ministry of Tourism expects higher visitor arrivals in March and April, partly due to an airfare promotion and greater airlift to The Bahamas. The Bahamas Celebration's is fully booked for its inaugural visit to Grand Bahama next month.
