Watching the rise of The Bahamas new national stadium with weekly visits, Olympian Thomas A Robinson said he is happy with the progress of the arena that will bear his name.

The first level of the western stands is nearly done. Workers will build two more levels before adding a canopy roof. The one-level eastern stands should be ready in time for booth roofs to go up at the same time.

Specialists from China will come to The Bahamas to work on the project, including forty who will come in May and spend three months building the roofs and ten in April who will spend a month working on four 80-foot high light towers. The foundations for the light towers are already 42-feet high.

The Thomas A Robinson stadium is on track to finish for June 30, 2011 opening.

The stadium made headlines last month when 40 Chinese workers walked off the site and headed for the Chinese Embassy. They walked as far as the entrance to Elizabeth Estates before they were met by Chinese Ambassador, Dingxian Hu.

The Ambassador said the matter was caused by a misunderstanding over worker's contracts and was resolved amicably.

He said the project is a good test of the relationship between China and The Bahamas. Next on the agenda is the highway construction project on John F Kennedy Drive between the Lynden Pindling International Airport and Thompson Boulevard.
