Special Olympics Bahamas may have a relatively small team of athletes competing at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games (LA2015), but they are making their presence felt. The team has already won 17 medals so far and are in medal contention for several of the remaining events.

"The competition has been fierce across the board but our athletes are up to the challenge and it is all reflective of the dedication and commitment of our hard working athletes and coaches, who have put in the time and are now reaping the rewards," said Gilbert Williams, sports and training director for Special Olympics Bahamas and head of delegation at the Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles.

"The team is made up of a good mixture of experience and first time participants which seems to be working fine. There are four coaches and 17 athletes on the team that are experiencing World Games Competition for the first time and they are all contributing to the team's overall success."

The athletics team has earned three of the six gold medals secured thus far and will be looking to add to this (and the overall count), when the 4x400m men's relay team hits the track on today, in an event that is expected to be both exciting and extremely competitive.

Donovan Clarke, who is expected to anchor the squad, will need to produce another dominant 400m run in order to secure his third gold medal of these games. Competition at these games will conclude on August 2 with a live broadcast of the closing ceremony on ESPN. Team Bahamas will return home on Tuesday, August 4, and is expected to arrive at Lynden Pindling International Airport at approximately 11 a.m.
