The Crown has abandoned its plan to try two men for murder and abetment to commit murder for a second time. The first trial of Rico Hanna, also known as "Show", and Melbourne Bain, otherwise known as "Blood", ended in a mistrial in June. They were scheduled to be tried again before Acting Justice Cheryl Grant-Bethell for the August 15, 2012 shooting death of Luc Dupre. But the prosecution presented a nolle prosequi yesterday before the jury was empanelled.

Prosecutors alleged that Hanna, who was just 17, killed Dupre after receiving an order from Bain. Dupre was shot in the head, back, chest and face at Sunlight Cottage and Freeway Lane. Before the trial was stopped because of possible jury bias, Hanna testified in his defense, saying, "I've never killed anyone in my entire life." Hanna claimed that he was at home from 5 p.m. on August 15 until the following morning.

According to Hanna, both he and his brother, Calvin Hanna, were in their shared bedroom. Hanna claimed that he had only seen his co-accused in passing and got to know him in prison. Hanna admitted that he was known as "Show" as alleged by prosecution witnesses.

Asked how long he knew Bain, Hanna said, "I never really knew him until we got arrested. I would see him by Windsor Lane Park or by the upholstery store." He also denied working for Bain.
