A teacher at C.H. Reeves Junior High School was attacked and robbed by two armed men while on campus yesterday morning, police and family of the victim confirmed yesterday Bernice Ferguson, sister of the victim identified as Lettia Strachan, told The Guardian the teacher tried to fight the men off, but ended up a "bloody mess" for her efforts.

"She was 'gun-butted', her face was bloody, and I mean it was just one mess. But she fight, my sister is a fighter. She fought, but now I know all of this is going to traumatize her," said Ferguson.

"My thing is she is on her job and they came here to rob her. "I mean it's like teachers aren't even safe in the classroom anymore.

"What do we do to protect our teachers?

"Suppose students were in that classroom with her, that's what disturbs me.

"It could have been another student or another teacher; suppose they decided they wanted to kill her. Then what?"

According to the school's principal, Greta Brown, Strachan, was in the science lab at the Robinson Road location around 7:30 a.m., preparing for her last day of summer school, when the two young men accosted her. Brown said that after Strachan attempted to resist the assailants, she was gunbutted and robbed of her car keys, cell phone, and other personal belongings.

Brown further explained that Strachan cried out for help and the school's security attempted to intervene. However, the assailants got away after firing a warning shot into the air. Strachan was then taken to the hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

"We are praying for her to be well and hope that the police are able to catch the boys before they can harm anyone else," Brown said.

Police yesterday reported that two men, ages 18 and 48, were in custody in connection with the incident.
