1200 room night loss 'better than expected'

Despite losing 1,200 room nights and an estimated $240,000 in direct revenue as a result of weather-related travel chaos on the US east coast over Christmas, top tourism officials yesterday said Bahamian tourism fared "better than we expected under the circumstances".

"The net effect we've determined so far is a loss of 1,200 room nights, which is relatively minor compared with what has happened in the US with the storms," said Minister of Tourism, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace.

The room night count was obtained through a survey done this weekend by the Bahamas Hotel Association (BHA) with some of its member hotels ...
