The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) yesterday unveiled a newly established Presidential Search Committee from across the BTVI community to select a new president in the hopes of appointing him or her in time for the 2015/2016 school year.

Although BTVI has not revealed a timeframe for the selection process, a press release indicated that the BTVI committee would shortly publish a presidential profile outlining the institute's ideal candidate.

"The presidential profile will act as a guide as we seek a Bahamian candidate of excellence. We're hoping that a large pool of candidates will be attracted to apply for the position," said BTVI board director and Presidential Search Committee Chairperson Rubie Nottage.

The new president will replace Dr. Iva Dahl, who has served as president of the institute for nearly a decade.

"In the interest of transparency, an open search will be conducted to field a wide selection of viable candidates," said BTVI Chairman Felix Stubbs.

The search committee is comprised of Nottage; Thelma Grimes, board director; Kevin Basden, board director; Myriam Stapleton, BTVI alumni representative; Dr. Ted Sofianos, external professional educator representative; Alicia Thompson, BTVI administration representative; Charles Kemp, BTVI instructor representative, and Donette Sinclair, board secretary.

BTVI last month partnered with Beach Aviation's Bahamas Aviation Academy to launch a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot Flight Training course in The Bahamas, which will begin later this month.
