Participants from Barbados, RSS countries and independent Commonwealth Caribbean countries came together at the Barbados Coast Guard to attend a maritime tactical planning course, delivered by a visiting training team of experts from the Royal Navy (RN).

Certificates of completion were handed out by Commander Aquinas Clarke, Commanding Officer of the Barbados Coast Guard, and Lt Commander Howard Clark, leader of the visiting RN Maritime Training Team at a closing ceremony at HMBS Pelican.

The participants studied a number of areas, including the following topics:

National Strategy for Maritime Security, International Maritime Law, Rules of Engagement, Command and Control, Maritime Security Operations and Logistics.

Lt Commander Clark commended all the students stating, “Not only have you improved your technical skill sets, but you have learnt the all important skill of working closely with your colleagues from other CARICOM countries. This will have a highly beneficial effect on future security cooperation throughout the region.”

Participants on this course were from Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.
