The two men arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Constable Demetrius Taylor on Sunday were wearing ankle bracelets as a condition of bail, The Nassau Guardian can reveal.
Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle, the head of the Central Detective Unit (CDU), declined to say whether the GPS-enabled devices had placed the men at the Nassau Village scene of the shooting. Rolle said the men were arrested Sunday night.
Taylor, 29, who works in the serious crimes section of CDU, was shot in the back of the head at Alexandria Boulevard. According to police, Taylor, who was off duty, was driving his white Honda Accord on Alexandria Boulevard at 3:20 p.m. when a black car pulled up behind him. The two men inside the black car shot at Taylor's car and hit him once in the back of the head, police said. He is expected to recover.
One of the suspects is on bail in connection with the 2013 murder, armed robbery and kidnapping of Immigration Officer Shane Gardiner and his girlfriend Tishka Braynen. He was freed on bail five months after he was remanded to prison on the charges.
The second suspect, 28, is on bail for attempted murder. He won two murder cases in 2013 after different judges ruled that alleged confessions were obtained by force.
