Starbucks Bahamas hopes to have all of its stores open again by the end of the week after a Christmas Eve fire devastated its warehouse, resulting in the temporary closure of all but three of the company's locations.
Inga Bowleg, director of business development for John Bull Ltd. and Coffee Cay Ltd., yesterday issued a press release revealing that all of Starbucks' inventory had been lost in the fire. Bowleg additionally told Guardian Business that she was currently unable to provide a figure for the lost inventory.
"The warehouse for Starbucks Bahamas was unfortunately completely destroyed during the Christmas Eve fire at the Soldier Road Industrial Park. All Starbucks-related inventory was lost and the overall operation has been impacted due to unexpected store closures, but our company remains extremely thankful that there were no injuries to partners.
"With the assistance of Starbucks International we hope to have all stores open for business before the end of the week. Meanwhile, our customers can still enjoy their favorite beverages and connect with our wonderful baristas at the following locations: Harbour Bay Shopping Centre; Melia, Cable Beach and Atlantis, Paradise Island," said Bowleg in the release.
Superintendent Walter Evans, officer in charge of Fire Services, yesterday confirmed with Guardian Business that the cause of the fire had not yet been identified, stating that the investigation is ongoing.
