An adult male has become Grand Bahama island's sixth traffic fatality for this year, following a horrific early morning crash.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the unidentified male driver, appeared to have been traveling north along Sgt Major Road at a very fast rate of speed, around 4:15am this morning(14.8.08), in a silver Mercury Sable, which bore no identification plates.

This vehicle appears to have shot across the stop sign at the intersection with East Settlers Way and plunged into the pine forest, at tremendous velocity, ending up suspended up off the ground in some pine trees, totally demolished.

Up to the time of this report [6:42 a.m.], the driver is still trapped inside the wreckage, as Traffic Police and Fire Services personnel are making efforts to extricate him.

As investigations are in progress, more information will be provided as it becomes available.
