FNM should take the bull by the horns

Dear Editor,

There is obvious unrest among the young PLP members of Parliament who it was promised would be the future of the party, but who have been treated as nothing more than a nuisance by the political "old heads" and their friends.
Considering the way these young men have been treated by their superiors for defending the interests of their constituents and taking a stand against hypocritical policies, the opposition should move quickly to take advantage of the situation.
The Free National Movement could benefit from having an Andre Rollins among their ranks, a Renward Wells or a Greg Moss. Or, better yet - all three.
Who knows - if the FNM approaches these disgruntled PLP young turks with the right offer, they might even be able to poach Deputy Speaker of the House Dion Smith, who publicly spoke out against the government's plan to implement value-added tax (VAT) as an unnecessary burden on his constituents, many of whom struggle with dire poverty.
As for whether these men would make good FNMs, I would say that depends on what the opposition party wants to stand for. If it wants to be seen as a political organization that defends the rights of the small man and stands against hypocrisy - like the gaming referendum, the result of which the government broke its promise to honor - then these are your men.

- F. Rolle
