The Bahamas declared ready for IAAF, World Relays Bahamas 2014

With less than 48 hours to go until the start of the inagaural International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Relays in Nassau, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Dr. Daniel Johnson has declared the Bahamas fully ready to host the upcoming event.

“I want people to understand that fans worldwide will soak up the beauty of what we have in The Bahamas and understand why we say its better in The Bahamas,” The Minister said. “Initially the three S's we used to use was, sun, sand and sea, but we've added another “S” now which is sports.”

The Minister was speaking today at the last press briefing held by the IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2014, Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the upcoming event.

Minister Johnson guarantees that “Sports Tourism” will change the outlook of The Bahamas and this historic event will encourage more visitors from all over the world to visit The Bahamas.

"Every hotel in The Bahamas is full, every flight coming in and out is full, every cab driver is busy, every restaurant is busy," said Johnson. "Every person who wants to get involved in the business of Sports Tourism needs to come this weekend and take a look at what this means."

During the event, over 100 countries will have the chance to watch the event via the new IAAF YouTube channel that will be providing live streaming.

As of tomorrow, Friday May 23rd The Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (ZNS) will launch a free ZNS Network App which will allow for the first time everyone in The Bahamas to download on their mobile devices live streaming of the event.

ZNS Executive Chairman, Rev. Dr. William Thompson also made this announcement during the press briefing.

“ZNS is limiting the live stream to the territory of The Bahamas in compliance with IAAF copywright terms,” he said. “We are, nevertheless pleased that Bahamians from Grand Bahama in the north to Inagua in the south will be able to watch the relays on their

Cell phones, I-pads and computers as well as on their television screens.”

The IAAF has granted ZNS the exclusive television broadcasting rights in The Bahamas.

Rev. Thompson said the new app is one of the legacies of the relays that will remain with the corporation for future use and development.

“We invite Bahamians everywhere in The Bahamas to tune into ZNS TV network, either online or their mobile devices to witness what we anticipate will be one of the greatest sporting events ever seen in The Bahamas,” he said.

The ZNS app will be available for download from Google Play Store.

The IAAF World Relays Bahamas 2014 will take place on May 24th & May 25th at The Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium. The world's top athletes are expected to be in action in front of an estimated 30,000 spectators and about 150 journalist from around the world
