The Bahamas Flag Football Association is getting closer to the start of its playoffs, and the action is really getting heated heading into week number six. After the first five weeks of action, last year's champions, the Ravens, are on top of the men's division once again, while the veteran Sands Light Lynx are ahead in the women's division so far.
The popularity of flag football has grown in the capital over the past few years. Since the creation of the league in 2009, more and more teams have joined the league each year, making things that much more competitive. The crowd support has also grown yearly as fans have become more educated about the sport.
The Ravens have managed to build a 5-0 record up to this point, while the Orry. J. Sands Spartans and the Finlandia Predators are tied for second with a record of 3-1. A Sure Win's Team Elite are in fourth with a 2-1 record and the Strongback Rams are in fifth with a 3-2 record. The RBC Lions currently sit in sixth with a 2-3 record and the Essential Service Avengers are seventh with a 1-2 record. The Bahama Clear Wolf Pack are eighth with a 1-3 record, while the Coca-Cola Hitmen are ninth with an 0-3 record; rounding out the group are the N.P Hurricanes with a 0-4 record.
The Ravens are number one in both the offensive and defensive rankings, and look to be on the verge of repeating unless someone steps up to knock them off course.
The Sands Light Lynx have built a 4-0 record in women's play, just a game ahead of the second place Johnson's Lady Spartans who hold a 3-0 record. The B.W.F Pink Foxes and Summit Academy Lady Ravens are tied for third with 2-1 records. The Bommer G's Bobcats are fifth with a 2-2 record, while the RBC Lady Lions and the Bahamasair Dashers are tied for sixth position with 1-2 records. The S.C. Femme Fatale Lady Predators are in eighth with a 1-3 record and the Essential Services Lady Avengers bring up the rear end with a 0-5 record.
The Pink Foxes have shown that they have a potent offense and lead in the league's offensive rankings, while the Lady Spartans are ranked as the number one defensive team up to this point.
Flag football will continue with week six on Sunday at the Rugby Field in Winton. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m.
