Police yesterday forwarded the file in the death of a man who was shot by police to the Coroner's Court.
After a review of the file, Coroner Jeanine Weech will set a date for an inquest into Wesley Pierre's death.
The purpose of an inquest is to present information concerning the victim's death in order for the jury to determine the cause and manner of death.
An inquest does not determine criminal or civil liability.
Police shot and killed Pierre, 33, after he allegedly attacked a policeman after being allowed to use the bathroom at the Georgetown Police Station in Exuma.
Pierre was detained in connection with a housebreaking and theft complaint, police said.
According to police, Pierre attacked and stabbed a corporal in the face with a pen.
Police said Pierre ran out of the station but was caught a short time later.
A struggle ensued and Pierre tried to disarm one of the police officers who pursued him, police said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson said that during the struggle the suspect hit an officer in the head with a rock and the officer shot him.
He died at the scene.
