Fri, Mar 21st 2014, 03:57 PM

Lignum Vitae Centre of Hope will be ‘Rocking Buena Vista’ April 5th with their fabulous fundraiser at John Watlings Distillery, Delancy Street.

The Great Sammy T and Los Labios, from Spain are the guest band playing the best Rock and Roll music from the 50’s, 60’s – the sound and the songs that cut loose from standard ballads and inspired a whole new genre of music, from Elvis Presley to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and everyone else since then.

Lignum Vitae is a registered charity in the Bahamas, their mission, ‘Empowering Women and Children to build a stronger community’. Their programmes provide Bahamian youth with a safe, dynamic, educational environment and opportunities through the U.S. based 4H programming, activities and a cooperative agreement with The University of Florida. July 2014 will bring 12 4-H Youth to the Bahamas to lead a camp and demonstrate the potential of 4-H Youth.

In 2013, these were offered at the new Marina C. Glinton Centre in conjunction with the Bahamas Red Cross Society in Bain & Grant’s Town, as was their ‘Hands Up’ Sewing Programme which gives single, unemployed mothers valuable skill-training as a basis for self-sufficiency. 2014, season 3 is taking place in conjunction with the Crisis Centre and LVCH have welcomed returning and new clients. Volunteers are welcomed as youth leaders and motivational and educational speakers.

The Board and the volunteers, led by Shelagh Pritchard, are dedicated to making their ‘Better is Possible’ slogan a reality every day and to help them in this endeavor, Sammy T and his band Los Labios are donating their time and their talent to making this the most fun event of the year.

Tickets are $125 and include 5 hours of fantastic music, dancing, 2 John Watlings Mixed Drinks, Appetisers and late Night Bites. VIP seating, socializing with the band available at $175. If you have a favourite song from that era, for $10 you can request it in advance.
