"Letter to the Editor"

I'm a tourist of modest means, visiting your beautiful island and friendly citizens.

I appreciate that I'm financially better off than the average Bahamian and share a perspective different from the latter, but...

I just don't get it...

I'm talking about all the carefree dumping of garbage and general littering. I've never seen anything like it anywhere else we've traveled.

My wife just observed in the middle of the morning someone backing his pickup to an illicit dump site near the beach on the road (Port of Call Drive?) that parallels the beach just beyond the end of Oceanhill Blvd. The person was dumping all sorts of large garbage bags, matresses, etc, without a care in the world. Really disgusting!

I certainly wouldn't invest in a time share or ownership of a condo along that stretch of beach.

I have to say that the garbage all over the island is the only real "negative" in our experience here. But it's a REALLY BIG ONE!

Illicit dumping and littering is out of control here! I'm sure the word has spread. It can't be good for your tourism industry.

Respectfully submitted for your consideration.
