Continuing its charge to foster the growth and development of the financial services sector of The Bahamas, the Ministry of Financial Services, led by the Hon. L. Ryan Pinder, M.P., is once again the Lead Sponsor of the 8th Annual Nassau Conference, scheduled for Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at the British Colonial Hilton under the theme “The Shift Has Occurred. How Are You Positioned?”.

Reflecting the recent upheaval and resulting changes in the global financial services landscape, this year’s Conference will bring together industry experts and thought leaders in a series of presentations and panel discussions around how both individuals and companies can position themselves to remain competitive in a new landscape.

A fundamental component of the Ministry’s support of The Nassau Conference is the continuing practice from previous years of underwriting the complimentary attendance of ten (10) College of The Bahamas (COB) students, as well as the continuation of a highly competitive, paid summer internship for COB students, who are selected on the basis of the educational achievement and career aspirations. “The conference participation and the summer internship will expose these students to the Financial Services Industry by providing hands on training and a wealth of knowledge.” said Minister Pinder at a recent press event held to formally announce his Ministry’s support.

As a result of their participation in Nassau Conference 2012, this past summer eleven (11) COB students had the opportunity to gain invaluable experience by completing internships with 9 leading banks and trust companies in The Bahamas. With the AIBT’s support, the plan is to expand the internship program to 20 students for Summer 2014. At a special reception held to recognize the interns and companies, the students expressed that the program was both eye opening and life changing as they prepare for graduation in upcoming months.

In reaffirming the mission of The Nassau Conference, Minister Pinder added: “As a sponsor of this year's conference, the Government remains committed to opportunities that enhance the human capital and technical skills of financial service sector employees and those seeking to enter the sector. My ministry remains committed to strongly investing in financial services education and training to develop the future leaders of the financial services industry. It is through partnerships like these - between the government and private sector - that the financial services sector is equipped with the domestic human capital to advance the industry throughout the world."

In addition to the Ministry of Financial Services, the corporate community as a whole continues to show its support for The Nassau Conference including ATC Trustees (Bahamas) Ltd., the Bahamas Financial Services Board, BSI Overseas (Bahamas) Ltd., BTC, the Central Bank of The Bahamas, Credit Suisse AG, Nassau Branch, Deloitte, Higgs & Johnson, Julius Baer Bank & Trust (Bahamas) Ltd., KPMG, LennoxPaton, Pictet Bank & Trust Ltd., The Private Trust Corporation Ltd., Societe Generale Private Banking (Bahamas) Ltd., Scotia Private Client Group, SYZ & Co. Bank & Trust Ltd., Star General Insurance Ltd., Sungard, UBS (Bahamas) Ltd., and The Winterbotham Trust Company Ltd.

The Nassau Conference is a premier professional development event dedicated to preparing and enhancing Bahamian professionals for continued success in the industry. A dynamic and relevant agenda drew more than 200 attendees in the last two years and underscores AIBT’s ongoing commitment, as Founding Partner, to the continued development and growth of this vital sector and its professionals.
