Students race at the recent LCIS Sports Day under the watchful eye of LCIS Sports Institute's Track coach, Ron Rodgers.NASSAU, Bahamas -- This Monday, Lyford Cay International School (LCIS) students took to the track at the impressive, new Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium of the Bahamas. LCIS students, excited to be given the opportunity to run on the "Track Of Champions", showed a marked improvement in their running techniques thanks to guidance from LCIS specialist  track coach, Ron Rogers,  given during regular PE classes. Track and Field is just one of the focus programs of the newly launched LCIS Sports Institute.
"We saw some impressive improvements during our Sports Day," said Athletic Director Craig Massey. "Technically our students have advanced. Relay exchanges, and starts and finishes were much more technically correct and our athletes were driven to push through their races. The elementary school student's rotation relays were well designed for learning the higher level skill that our athletes will be using on the track in just a few short years," he added.
Following the success and growth of the Art and Performing Arts Institute model at LCIS, the school administration decided to implement a plan to further develop the students' athletic prowess and sporting abilities by introducing the LCIS Sports Institute. Athletics in the curriculum and co-curricular program is an integral part of the student's education.
At the 50th Anniversary Gala held in March 2012, the audience pledged over $260,000 for the Sports Institute during the Fund-A-Need portion of the Live Auction. Principal, Stacey Bobo, commented on the event, "The Fund-A-Need event was a real highlight of the Gala last year. Giving was at all levels, ranging from $20,000 to $100, with each donor's contribution recognized. Over 75 individuals participated, with 10 being our very own faculty and staff. It was a powerful moment, which exhibited the unwavering commitment our faculty and staff have for LCIS and her students. We are grateful to everyone who participated - parents, grandparents, corporate sponsors, community members and staff."
