The Bahamian American Cultural Society, Inc. (BACS) reports that it successfully opened a Bahamian Art Exhibition in New York City at the Art Gallery in the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. New York State Office Building in Harlem – the first such undertaking in New York, the global mecca of diverse and multi-culturalism.

Bahamian Artists greeted the 150 patrons at the opening reception on Sunday, November 18, with a display of exhibits in multiple media. Visitors were wowed by a beautiful venue of colors, light Bahamian Music, and culinary delights.

The Honorable New State Senator Bill Perkins and The Bahamas Vice Consul Sandra Poitier-Mclaughlin, both spoke to the significance of the exhibition in bringing people and cultures together to facilitate improved understanding and appreciation of their similarities and differences. Her Excellency, Dr. Paulette Bethel, Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the United Nations also attended.

The Exhibition is under the Honorary Sponsorship of the Honorable Arthur O. Eve, Jr. former Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly. He is a Bahamian-American and reveres his roots from Eleuthera, The Bahamas.

The Leadership of BACS is pleased with this initiative, the response of the Bahamian artists, the collaboration of members, the curator and volunteers, and is also thankful to the sponsors and all who supported its vision and purpose.

The Bahamian Art Exhibition continues to January 12, 2013.

Visitors appreciate the art of the Minnis'.
