Disappointed in Selections to co-chair Independence Committee

Dear Editor, I am disappointed that Prime Minister Perry Christie appointed two known Progressive Liberal Party supporters to co-chair the 40th Independence Anniversary Committee.  The celebration of such an historic milestone should be non-political and truly national in every way possible. To appoint a former PLP Cabinet minister and a person who openly supported the PLP in the last general election sends a very bad message to the Bahamian public.

These celebrations should embrace all Bahamians and everyone, regardless of political persuasion, should be made to be made to feel as if they are a part of these historic celebrations. I am forced to ask whether Dr. Hubert Minnis or even Mr. Branville McCartney were consulted.  I suggest the following for the consideration of the prime minister: Charles Carter and Theresa Moxey-Ingraham as co-chairs, or alternatively Nicolette Bethel and Desmond Edwards. - Floyd Hanna
