Police want to question a mother and her three sons about a shooting at a funeral over the weekend.
Police reported that a 25-year-old man was shot and stabbed during the burial of 25-year-old Darren Carroll on Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, John F. Kennedy Drive.
Police were initially questioning five men about the shooting, but have since released that group.
Carroll, 25, of Englerston, was killed in a drive-by shooting on April 4 at Yellow Elder Gardens. Darren was waiting on a friend outside a residence when a gunman opened fire on him from a car, police said.
Carroll's mother, Annika Carroll, said it is tough to deal with her son's death and the incident at the graveyard.
"I'm going through the hardest time right now of my life after losing my son," she told The Nassau Guardian at her home off Key West Street yesterday.
"The hardest part is knowing that I was in the graveyard crying [and] before his body could even get committed to the ground, a fight erupted with a big crowd of people. In all of my crying for my son I ran and left him."
She continued: "I can't deal with this situation. No one is sympathizing with me and my family who had to flee the graveyard. I didn't even get to see my son go in the hole. Now everybody is turning the emphasis on me."
Annika alleged that police broke into her home Monday night. She also claimed that officers at the Central Detective Unit (CDU) told her that they wanted to question her three sons about the shooting at the graveyard.
Annika said she was going to make a complaint at the police corruption unit yesterday.
However, Superintendent Paul Rolle, head of CDU, told The Guardian that he had not seen her and no complaint had been filed with police.
He confirmed that police went to Annika's home on Monday to investigate and they want to question the mother and her three sons in connection with the shooting at the cemetery.
Rolle confirmed that police now have a suspect in custody regarding Darren's death.
The 25-year-old who was shot and stabbed at the funeral was still in stable condition up to press time last night, according to police.
