An American Border Patrol agent captured a 39-year-old Bahamian who has been accused of smuggling a kilogram of cocaine into Fort Lauderdale, Florida on a Bahamasair flight.
Civil servant Maceo Seymour was arrested by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Agent at Hollywood International Airport around 7:30 p.m. on February 15, according to court documents.
The criminal complaint said the officer searched a black bag Seymour claimed as his own and found a brick-shaped item.  The contents tested positive in the field as cocaine, according to the complaint.
Seymour allegedly waived his right to remain silent and told the officer he found the drugs at Yamacraw Beach three days prior to his arrest around 4 p.m. to 5 p.m, the complaint said.
Seymour allegedly told the officer that he believed the drugs were worth between $18,000 to $20,000 and he planned to try to find a buyer in Florida, the complaint said.
Seymour pleaded not guilty in United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida to the charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.  Magistrate Judge Lurana Snow set his bail at $250,000 on the condition that his sureties can show that the security is from a legitimate source.
