New container port safety fears raised

FREEPORT - A container port worker claims that they continue to work under unsafe conditions and was concerned that there is still no government agency monitoring operations at the port, despite the deaths of three workers at the facility early this year.

The Tribune was reliably informed that the brake system on some of the gantry cranes is still not functioning properly.

Last week, crane three reportedly became unstable while a container was being hoisted by the operator, a worker claimed.

"The crane moved along the train tracks and could have injured someone on the ground," the worker said.
