How to Activate My Prepaid 4G Data Service?

 Did you know that you don’t need to visit our Customer Service Department to activate 4G Data Services on your prepaid phone?  If you know how to send a text message/SMS you’re already halfway there!

To activate your prepaid data services, please follow the steps below.

Text the following to phone number 5000: Data 1D

7 Day

 Text the following to phone number 5000: Data 7D

30 Day

 Text the following to phone number 5000: Data 30D

  Create a text message/SMS  and include as the recipient short code “5000” (do not include 242 or any other number before or after the “5000”)

  1.  In the body of the text message, enter the SMS Command for the package you are selecting.  For example, enter “Data 7D” or “Data 30D”. (please ensure that you place a space in between “Data” and “7D” or “30D” for example)
  2. Press send.
  3. You will receive a message that reads “You requested BTC 4G Data service. Send “A” to confirm. Upon confirmation, the subscription charge will be deducted from your account”.
  4. Send “A” to confirm that you would like to add the service.
  5. When your service is activated you will receive a message that states that your service was successfully activated.  The message will also provide the expiration date for your package.
  6. To enjoy best possible 4G Data speeds, ensure that your device wireless settings are configured to the WCDMA/GSM auto network mode.
  7. Open your web browser and go to your favorite website.
  8. Begin “blazing it up”!

4G Prepaid Data Plans - Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting Guide 

  • I’ve received confirmation of my service activation but I can’t browse the internet.

a)     Ensure that the APN settings on your device are correct. 

b)    If your APN is isn’t correct, manual configure your device and insert the correct APNs.   

  • Are there different APNs for Prepaid and Postpaid Customers?

Yes there are different APNs for Prepaid and Postpaid customers.   

  • I have a smart phone which BTC APN should I use on my device – GPRS or Internet?

a)     Smart phones should be configured with internet APNs.  This is also the same for Iphones and Androids. The BTC APNs for smart phones are:

  1. Prepaid – ppinternet.btcbahamas.com
  2. Postpaid – internet.btcbahamas.com

b)    The GPRS APN settings should be used for all other phone types.

  • I waited too late to send a text message to confirm the activation of my service.

a)     You will not be able to reply to the request after 3 minutes.  Restart the service activation process.

 

  • What can I do to find out when my service ends or is deactivated?

a)     To confirm the status of your service, send “Data Info” to short code “5000”.  You will receive a reply with your package type and your expiration date.

 

  • What do I need to do to deactivate my service?

a)     Service is automatically deactivated after the defined package period. There will be no recurring data plans/packages.

 

  • Will there be charges be recurring for prepaid 4G data packages?

a)     Service is automatically deactivated after the defined package period. There will be no recurring data plans/packages.

 

  • Will I be notified when my service ends?

a)     With the exception of 1Day packages, 24 hours before a package expires the customer receives a notice to advise that:

“Your [Data Plan] will expire on [Date and Time]. To prevent service disruption, please purchase another subscription.”

  1. I’m an existing postpaid data customer, what happens to my package after the new 4G service is launched?

 

When the new 4G service is launched, existing postpaid data customers will receive improved data speeds and will automatically be placed on the new 4G network.
