Immigration patrols get ready for 'busiest time'

ROYAL Bahamas Defence Force officers picked up 101 illegal migrants this weekend as the organization prepared for the "busiest time of the year".

The Immigration department has increased patrols and apprehension exercises in preparation for the next two months, director Jack Thompson said yesterday.

Some 101 illegal immigrants were discovered in waters off Harbour Island Saturday, however, the nationality of the group could not be determined up to press time. There were also unconfirmed reports that a Haitian sloop was spotted near South Beach pools early Saturday morning.
