Ninth for McKayla!

McKayla Lightbourn of The Bahamas is pictured competing in the Women's 200 meters Backstroke event at the Scotiabank Aquatics Centre in Guadalajara, Mexica on Thursday.

Despite not being able to medal thus far at the 16th Pan Am Games, The Bahamas continues to make a strong showing. Lightbourn clocked 2:23.74 to finish ninth among 21 competitors, just missing the final, which featured the top eight. She out-classed a number of competitors from major countries.

A total of 42 countries and more than 6,000 athletes are participating in the Pan Am Games. The lone Bahamian male swimmer, Vereance Burrows, also competed on Thursday morning in the 50m Freestyle. Burrows finish 12th in a time of 23.26 seconds. He finished ahead of host country Mexico and Canada among other countries.

The swimming competition closes out on Friday. Ariel Weech is scheduled to compete in the 50m Freestyle event for women, and The Bahamas' team of Alana Dillette, Alicia Lightbourne, McKayla Lightbourn and Ariel Weech will compete in the 4x100m Medley Relay
