Testing heirlooms

DURING January of this year I was given more than a dozen varieties of heirloom tomato seeds. This was very exciting, of course, and I had to abandon my regular favourites (including other heirlooms) in order to try out the newcomers.

My vegetable gardens are too small to do justice to so many varieties and so I shared seeds with friends. I grew one or two of each myself, which is hardly the basis of any scientific judgment, but did come up with some really interesting results.

My favourite large pink heirloom tomatoes are Brandywine and Giant Pink Ruffled. I can now add German Pink.
