Alleged drug dealer Melvin Maycock Sr. yesterday asked a court to remove his ankle bracelet because officials at the monitoring center were trying to restrict his movements.  Senior Justice Jon Isaacs on May 12 ordered Maycock tagged with a GPS-enabled monitoring device as a condition of his $40,000 bail on a drug conspiracy charge.

Maycock's lawyer, Jomo Campbell, alleged that officials had taken it upon themselves to alter the court's order by telling him he could not go certain places.  Isaacs reportedly said he did not impose limitations on Maycock's travels and he would order the bracelet removed if officials continued to interfere with Maycock.

Police arrested Maycock in April on a conspiracy charge following the discovery of 1,257 pounds of marijuana and 435 pounds of hashish oil with a combined wholesale value of $1.6 million at a home on Blake Road.

Maycock was already on bail regarding an extradition case for his alleged role as the head of the Caribbean arm of a multi-national drug smuggling gang.  He is also on bail for a local drug case involving the seizure of 1,250 pounds of marijuana and three firearms in 2008.

Maycock has another pending case involving his alleged escape from the Elizabeth Estates Police Station in February 2008. Prosecutors allege that Maycock swapped places in the cell with his son, Melvin Maycock Jr., with the assistance of Sergeant Troy Lewis.
