THE southernmost island of the Bahamas hosted its inaugural event honouring a local boxing icon.

Inagua Amateur Boxing Club (IABC) hosted the First Annual Edwin Clare Memorial Amateur Boxing Tournament over the Independence weekend in Matthew Town, Inagua.

The club, headed by Inspector Dennis Brown, president of the Inagua Amateur Boxing Association and head coach Harold Seymour, indicated the event was "explosive" and "very successful" as the IABC squared off against the Champion Amateur Boxing Club (CABC) from New Providence.
