Professor George Lamming at COB for BWSI

George Lamming of Barbados, a distinguished visiting professor at Brown University, is one of the Caribbean’s finest intellectuals and foremost literary artists.  He is, in addition, a literary and cultural critic. His works comprise poetry, several novels of which “In the Castle of My Skin” and “Season of Adventure” are the most well known, and essays on Caribbean culture and history such as “The Pleasures of Exile” and “Sovereignty of the Imagination”.  He has been a leading voice in the understanding and shaping of the Caribbean personality and politics.

George Lamming is the Guest Writer for the 2011 Bahamas Writers Summer Institute and carried out a lecture at the Harry C. Moore Library at the College of the Bahamas under the theme "Memory, Desire and Community: Interconnec-tedness in the Caribbean Literary Imagination". Professor Lamming will also be hosting a reading of his recent creative works on Saturday July 16th at the Chapter One Bookstore.
