A jury yesterday unanimously cleared Mario Delancy of a murder charge but found him guilty of manslaughter. Prosecutors had alleged that Delancy and others were responsible for the July 16, 2009 beating death Adam Evans at Spring City, Abaco.
Delancy, who was on bail pending trial, has been remanded into custody until his sentencing hearing on July 18 at 10:30 a.m. before Senior Justice Jon Isaacs.

A witness claimed that he saw six men armed with lumber beating Evans. The trial began with five other defendants. However, prosecutors dropped charges against Willie Watkins, Jameka McKenzie, Zhivargo Bootle, Shawona Pinder and Jerann Delancy on the second day of trial.

In other news from the Supreme Court, a judge yesterday discharged the jury hearing an armed robbery case after a juror revealed she was related to the accused. Keiron Dean was on trial before Justice Vera Watkins charged with the armed robbery of Monel Meus in May 2010.

Testimony began on Tuesday. A juror told the court on Wednesday that she did not know Dean, but she had just learned that his mother is her cousin. Dean, who is on bail, returns to court on July 19 for a fixture hearing.

Devard Francis represents Dean and Terry Archer appears for the Crown. Also from the Supreme Court, prosecutors will not seek the death penalty in the case of Durad Munroe.  He was convicted of the November 2009 murder of prison officer Clifford Wellington Godet Jr. on July 6.

Godet, 27, of Seven Hills Drive, was shot in the head during an altercation at a gated apartment complex. Prosecutor Eucal Bonaby told Justice Bernard Turner yesterday that prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. Munroe returns to court on September 6 for sentencing. Bonaby was assisted by Vanda Mackey-Williams. Roger Gomez Jr. was the defense lawyer.
