Police shot one of three suspects involved in the kidnapping of a man and his girlfriend early Sunday morning.

According to Assistant Superintendent Walter Evans, a 23-year-old man and his 19-year-old girlfriend were held at gunpoint as they were walking in the area of Elizabeth Avenue around 2:00a.m. Sunday.

ASP Evans said the gunmen forced the man into the trunk of his white Nissan Maxima, while the female was forced inside the vehicle.

ASP Evans said the man was able to contact a friend by cell phone while in the trunk.

"The friend then informed the police of the abduction," he said. "Officers from the mobile division saw the vehicle in the Prince Charles Drive area shortly thereafter and gave chase after the speeding vehicle."

ASP Evans said the car stopped in the eastern area of Prince Charles Drive and two gunmen exited, one of whom pointed a gun in the direction of the police.

He said one of the officers fired back with his service weapon.

"One of the men was hit to the left side of the abdomen while the other was caught," according to ASP Evans. " The third man was able to escape and is actively being sought."

One of the men is an 18-year-old resident from Knowles Drive off Tonique Williams Highway, and the injured man is a 20- year-old Kemp Road resident, ASP Evans said. He also added that Police recovered an imitation firearm, which was used by one of the men.
