A man who allegedly shot a man to death shortly after they fought has been denied bail.

Ryan Wood Jr., 22, appeared before Senior Supreme Court Justice Stephen Isaacs yesterday seeking bail for the December 19, 2015 murder of Rafik Turnquest.

In his bail application, attorney Stanley Rolle cited the poor conditions at the prison as one of the reasons that Wood should be admitted to bail.

Rolle alleged that there was a food shortage at the prison, with inmates being given white bread for meals.

He also said that Wood had developed a skin rash from sleeping on the dirty floor.

According to Rolle, Wood is not a flight risk and is likely to be acquitted at his trial, which is scheduled for November 2017.

Prosecutor Kristan Stubbs objected to bail as there had been no unreasonable delay.

She also noted that an off-duty police officer parted the fight between Wood and Turnquest, and another person allegedly witnessed the shooting.

Isaacs in refusing the application said that the Crown seemed to have a cogent case and that there had been no unreasonable delay.
