Bruce Bruce rocks

I've always professed to not having a funny bone, because I really hadn't come across a comedian who I really found entertaining -- much less make the tears stream out of my eyes, or for my sides to hurt so much because I laughed too long and too hard, to the point that I could barely catch my breath. But I know lots of people that just lose it when the joke telling starts, and I'm looking at them like what's so funny. Now while I still didn't do either, last week's standup routine by Bruce Bruce was refreshing for me. I finally came across a comedian that actually made me laugh and have a good time at a comic show.

If I can say so, I found Bruce Bruce to be irreverently irreverent -- no topic was safe from his comedic wit. He spoke about his family, stuff that the old school cats can relate to, and that the younger generation would still appreciate. His brand of entertaining spanned the genres, and entertained the young and old in the audience. He even cracked on having his prostate check.

And you know if he throws a corny Mickey and Minnie joke into the mix, that no topic was sacred. As corny as it was, the Mickey/Minnnie joke really cracked me up, because it was one of those jokes that made you pause for second, so that your brain catches up to the interpretation, you work it out in your head and you can't help but laugh. Bruce Bruce just had to share the reason why Mickey divorced Minnie, and it was because she was #@%#@%# goofy (or was that Goofy). Like I said it was all in the individuals' interpretation.

Then there were the classic black and white people jokes, and goodness knows when the concession worker dropped a piece of equipment and the noise resounded throughout the theater, Bruce Bruce used that opportunity to speak to the differences between black people and white people. He pointed out that he was all prepared to leave the stage at the noise, but that if it had been a white person, they would have wanted to find out what was going on. He just had to go there.

And Lord help the man who sat in the very front row and couldn't hold it until the end of Bruce Bruce's hour-long set. He just had to get up to make a trip to the restroom in the middle of the routine. Bruce Bruce did not let that slide at all.

And for you women who lean towards shaving off your eyebrows, and then drawing them back in with eye pencil, and drawing that line so high, that it looks like you're always asking a perpetual question, Bruce Bruce dealt with you, and it was hilarious as all get out.

Showing his quickness on the uptake he even took on a member of the audience who poked him just a little; but Bruce Bruce did not simply poke back, he pushed back.

With the United States presidential run in high season, Bruce Bruce had fodder for the pickings, but didn't dwell on that topic too long.

While I distinctly remember walking out of Mo'Nique's show a few years back when she did a standup routine in The Bahamas at the then Crystal Palace Hotel because I felt that the cussing was just too much, and unwarranted. While Bruce Bruce did indeed sprinkle F-bombs here and there, they were done tastefully -- well as tastefully as F-bombs can be, so I wasn't offended and actually enjoyed the show.

When I think back on it actually, I think it was Bruce Bruce's delivery that really did it for me. The comedian who had been the host for two season's of BET's "Comic View" laid it down on the Atlantis stage. If you missed it, unfortunately, he was only here for a two-night run, so you missed it.
