Anderson will join the UPEI Eagles in the fall.

Former C.C. Sweeting Cobras power forward Nathan Anderson ended his high school career ranked as one of the country's top junior players. Now the 6'6", 215-pound big man has his sights set on the next level as prepares to take his talents to Canada this season to join the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers.

The University of Prince Edward Island is a public liberal arts university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the sole university in the province.

"I am really ecstatic and excited to be attending a great school like UPEI," Anderson said. "I really appreciate the opportunity that coach (Tim) Kendrick has given me. I will put my best foot forward and give my greatest effort, both in the classroom and on the court."

Anderson joins a team that's coming off five straight seasons of finishing in the top three in the Atlantic University (AUS) conference. The Panthers lost 85-75 to Dalhousie in the conference finals of last year's AUS tournament.

"We are very pleased to add Nathan to our roster for the next five years," Kendrick said. "He has good size and from everything we have seen and heard, a willingness to work hard on the court and off. He is athletic, strong, and runs the court well. He will most definitely add to our frontcourt depth, and we expect him to improve steadily throughout his career here at UPEI."

Anderson will fill the final of three invitational roster spots for the Panthers. The other two are forwards Milorad Sedlarevic and Stefan Vujisic.

Coach Kendrick said that although Anderson will more than likely be a long-term project, he still thinks he has enough tools to play some valuable minutes as a freshman.

"I think he can step in and play some right now, but I think we got a bit of a diamond kind of in the rough," he said. "I really see Nathan two, three, four years down the road being a key player for us."

Anderson will be studying arts at UPEI.

Coach Kendrick hopes the addition of Anderson and others in this year's recruiting class will help get them over the hump of the conference finals.

The New Providence native joins combo guard Shavon Gayle, point guard Kyle Rotterman and former Cape Breton Capers guard Vishal Banipa on this year's squad.
