Twenty-three exemplary female educators representing government and private institutions in The Bahamas were recognized for their invaluable contributions to nation building during a ceremony Tuesday, May 24, 2016.
Family, friends, well-wishers, executives of the Primary Principals’ Association, representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and school administrators were among those in attendance at Government House when Governor General Her Excellency Dame Marguerite Pindling presented the veteran educators with medals. The theme for the ceremony was “Celebrating Exemplary Educators”.
Director of Education Lionel Sands said the job of a teacher is “multi-faceted”.

“Teachers do more than teach. They parent, they nurse and pastor too. Most importantly, they encourage, inspire, motivate. Essentially, it is a teacher’s job to bring out the best in every student,” he said.
The Director urged the distinguished educators to continue to be role models and to elevate the standards and profile of educators. The MOEST and our students are only as good as our weakest link. We are depending on you to execute your duties with excellence in order to empower the next generation of Bahamian students.
Lennox Green, principal of Stephen Dillet Primary School told the honorees that they are “unique” and their uniqueness is defined by the patience, courage, love and faith that they exemplify.

He said the teachers are divinely called and will one day receive their divine reward. He urged them to keep building the nation’s children and to hold fast to their faith and trust in God.
Amiel Johnson, a student of Albury Sayle Primary School, accompanied by Ambassador Devon Rolle, gave a musical tribute to the educators.
