A man who police say escaped from a police bus that was headed to prison denied the charge yesterday.

Jason Rolle, 21, elected to be tried before Deputy Chief Magistrate Constance Delancy at his arraignment. The trial is scheduled to begin on July 13.

Rolle allegedly jumped from a 30-seat Coaster bus as the vehicle headed east along Wulff Road, near Whim's Auto Parts around 4 p.m. on Friday.

Police captured Rolle at Farrington Road. He had been sentenced to a six-month prison term after failing to pay a $1,200 fine on a drug possession charge.

Rolle is the second person accused of escaping during the return to the prison.

In February, convicted murderer Ormand Leon escaped from a police bus in the area of York Street and East Bay Street.

Leon, 26, was reportedly handcuffed and shackled before he was placed on the bus for transport to the BahamasDepartment of Correctional Services, but he left his restraints behind when he jumped off the bus.

Leon was convicted of the July 10, 2011 shooting death of Francisco Hanna at Wilson Track.

Leon was at large for 15 days before he was captured in a home in the Gladstone Road area.

A probe into his escape was still ongoing, according to Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson, earlier this month.
