Yet another prisoner escaped from police custody, triggering an island-wide manhunt by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Jason Jerome Rolle, a 21-year-old convicted for possession of dangerous drugs, somehow absconded from a police transport vehicle yesterday, according to police. He wasn't on the run for long.

Police said they captured him in the Farrington Road area, where he was reportedly known to frequent, around 9:30 p.m

Rolle is at least the second convict to somehow flee from a police transport this year.

Police didn't give much detail as to how the escape occurred, but said it happened sometime around 4:00 p.m. on Wulff Road near Claridge Road en route to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

It is unclear if Rolle was shackled or handcuffed when he made his getaway, or if he was assisted.

Police cars and vans with sirens blarings blanketed much of the area yesterday afternoon into the evening, as it is believed Rolle escaped into the surrounding neighborhood on foot.

Police also set up roadblocks and deployed K9 units throughout New Providence to locate Rolle.

Police said he was considered armed and extremely dangerous.

They urged members of the public not to engage Rolle if he was spotted, but to call authorities at 919 or 328-TIPS.

Police didn't say if a tip led to Rolle's capture, but they disclosed that the Selective Enforcement Team brought him in.

In February, convicted murderer Ormand Leon escaped from a police bus in the area of York Street and East Bay Street.

Leon, 26, was reportedly handcuffed and shackled before he was placed on the bus for transport to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services, but he reportedly left his restraints behind when he jumped off the bus.

Leon was convicted of the July 10, 2011 shooting death of Francisco Hanna at Wilson Track.

Leon was at large for 15 days before he was captured in a home in the Gladstone Road area.

A probe into his escape was still ongoing, according to Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson, earlier this month.
