The Greater Cincinnati area apparently loves the Bahamas.

The operator of non-stop flights from Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport to the island country is adding additional seats to accommodate growing demand, according to Bahamas tourism representatives in Cincinnati on Monday.

"You're one of the best producing for this program," said Jeannie Gibson, communications manager for The Bahamas Tourist Office based in Florida.

It's a shift that highlights CVG's rapidly growing role as a regional hub for low-cost carriers such as Frontier and Allegiant and direct-flight vacation tours, such as those to the Bahamas and other tropical and beach vacation destinations.

“We're proud that due to a strong response from the Tristate community for affordable, nonstop service to Freeport Grand Bahama, Vacation Express and Sunwing Airlines are now entering their third year of service from CVG,” said Candace McGraw, CEO of CVG. "This year also includes an expanded hotel offering providing more options for travelers to choose from.”

The operator of the package tours, Vacation Express, is upgrading its aircraft that fly from CVG from 150-passenger jets to Boeing 737-800s, which seat 189 passengers each. The flights leave every five days from late May through the end of June and in August through the third week in October, catering to tourists who take advantage of four-night or longer stays.

Package tour prices for trips to Grand Bahama Island range from $499 and up, with hotels that cater to a variety of potential travelers, including those seeking whole-family adventures and those looking for adult-only resorts. Many of Vacation Express' deals offer all-inclusive packages that include including flights, hotel, meals and unlimited drinks. Vacation packages can be booked online at vacationexpress.com or by calling 1-800-309-4717.
