More patrons expected for this year's Popeyes Bahamas Bowl

The in-stadium audience for today's Popeyes Bahamas Bowl is expected to surpass the 13,000 number that was experienced for the inaugural game last year, especially among the foreign visitors. This means enterprises around the island are set to benefit greatly from the second edition of the event. There's been a lot of international buzz surrounding the game all year and its organizers have intensified the number of events happening on and off the field.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is going to have a big tailgate party ahead of the game, and at half-time, there will be a contest where a lucky fan will get a chance to win cash. There will also be a face-off between the Saxons and Valley Boys Junkanoo groups. Deputy Director General in the Ministry of Tourism Joy Jibrilu said the country as a whole is set to benefit greatly from the game that will be hosted at 12 noon live on ESPN from the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium.

"The Bahamas is certainly honing its reputation as a sports tourism destination," she said. "We are proud and delighted to host this much anticipated showdown, and we congratulate both teams for being here. I would also like to extend a special thanks to our title sponsor as well. This bowl is hands down a winner for The Bahamas. What our country receives in advertising and marketing is priceless.

"We're expecting the number of viewers to be higher this year, because it will be the only bowl game happening at that time. There are hundreds of football fans here with the teams, and for our local industry, this game means an increase in hotel nights and the usual vacation expenditures. Since the game has come to The Bahamas, Christmas Eve is no longer only about picking up last minute gifts. It is about football." Executive Director of the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl Richard Giannini said he expects a competitive game and lots of fun for all involved.

"We want everyone to come out because it will be a day of fun, family and food," he said. "It's the only game that is held internationally and having it at such a great destination makes it such a great event, not only for the teams but for all Bahamians."

As mentioned, the 2nd Annual Popeyes Bahamas Bowl will kick off at 12 noon today. Game Day Fan Fest begins at 8:30 a.m. with a grill masters competition. There will also be cheerleaders, mascots and football toss competitions for VIP winners. Game tickets will be sold at the stadium for $10, $15 and $25.
