At the signing, the head of the PMU, which represents middle managers at The College, said that while the agreement doesn't "fix or cure" everything the union had hoped, it is nonetheless "a handsome package" with "financial breathing room."
COB Council Chairman Alfred Sears said the agreement stood on the foundational principle of shared governance.
"A critical partner in the governance of the institution are the various unions, one of which is present this morning, and I wish to commend the effort and the intellectual work and rigor that went into getting us to this day, and look forward to continued collaboration with the PMU as one of the stakeholders in The College of The Bahamas, soon to be University of The Bahamas."
Of the contract signing, COB President Rodney Smith said, "It is a momentous occasion, and it just speaks well of the kinds of working relationships that The College of The Bahamas has with its staff members."
Meanwhile, PMU President Leslie Munnings said there is still room for development in the areas of health insurance coverage, tuition assistance and salary advances. The agreement is not perfect, he asserted, and "the work is not done yet."
