Witness testimony continues in McCartney murder trial

Tue, Dec 1st 2015, 12:16 AM

An anonymous witness yesterday identified the two women he claimed he saw with businessman Kurt McCartney when he was murdered. The witness, who began his testimony on Wednesday, is the subject of an anonymity order and is testifying behind an opaque screen via video link. The witness picked out Sumya Ingraham and Lyndera Curry after the camera panned the courtroom. Curry's lawyer, Sonia Timothy, protested the identification, saying that the camera was focused on where the women were seated.

Ingraham, Curry, Thorne Edwards and Okell Farrington are on trial for McCartney's murder and armed robbery at Gambier Village on October 24, 2013. They have denied the allegations at their trial before Senior Justice Stephen Isaacs. A fifth man, Terry Delancy, is accused of being an accessory after the fact.

According to the witness, he met the women earlier that evening when Edwards called him and asked him for a ride to Gambier Village. The witness said that he was at Twisted Lime in Sandyport when he received the call. The witness said he picked up the defendants at Plantol Street and took them to Gambier Village. The witness claimed that he saw the women approach McCartney as he left the Last Man Standing Bar.

The darker-skinned woman, whom he identified as Curry, was arguing with McCartney, according to the witness. He said that Edwards approached McCartney after Curry signalled to him and Edwards shot McCartney in the face. According to the witness, Edwards ran into bushes and the remaining three defendants drove off in McCartney's Hummer and rolled over his body as they headed toward West Bay Street.

The witness said he was afraid and got into his car and headed south into Gambier Village. The witness also claimed that he picked out all of the defendants when shown a photo array at the Central Detective Unit on November 13, 2013. He said that he was in police custody four days later when he saw the defendants in the lock-up.

The trial continues today.
