We need a think tank for crime

Dear Editor,

As I look closely at both the issues of criminality and illegal immigration, it seems absolutely clear to me that they both suffer from the same weak or total lack of vision.

There are no or very few permanently-manned defense force posts around the islands.

There are no permanently manned posts at strategic intersections throughout the roadways. Therefore, it is easy for drive by shootings to occur and the perpetrators simply cruise away. It is likewise very easy to simply wait until the defense force boats to pass by before illegal immigrants land.

I believe that we could do a lot more to curb criminal opportunities if we had a real crime think tank.

More must be done; police cars should have trackers on them to ensure that vehicles are always in position and not making personal runs. A minimum of 10 manned defense force outposts should be strategically placed around each island, instead of burning unnecessary fuel by driving boats back and forth.

Ensuring that each outpost is outfitted with high-powered, long range night vision binoculars with digital camera recording capabilities and linked by Wifi or GSM via live streaming to a central station is also a good idea.

I extend my hand to the government and people of the Bahamas to help create a unique and productive solution to these troubling issues.
